Munger Mode rating: 2 out of 5 — Sell. Our own rating from the research report below, on business quality first: moat durability and management, with price separating the top three.
Written in the voice of Warren Buffett and Charlie Munger, from primary sources: Charter's 10-Q for the quarter ended June 30, 2026, recent earnings communications, and current market data. Charlie and I have spent our lives looking for wonderful businesses at fair prices. Charter Communications today presents us with the opposite proposition: a formerly wonderful business, now merely average and arguably deteriorating, at a price so low it makes your eyes water. The stock closed around $123 on July 24 after a brutal reaction to second-quarter results — down from a 52-week high of $399, and down more than 85% from its 2021 peak. It trades at roughly 3 times trailing earnings and about 3 times free cash flow to the equity. Cheap? Extraordinarily. Safe? No.
