Guardant Health is a genuinely impressive scientific enterprise attacking one of the largest and most worthy problems in medicine — finding cancer early enough to matter. The people running it are serious, capable, and honest. The technology is real. The market is enormous. And we would not put a dollar of our own money into the common stock at $162. That is not a contradiction. It is the whole of value investing compressed into one paragraph. A wonderful mission is not a wonderful business, and a wonderful business is not a wonderful investment at any price.
