Munger Mode rating: 4 out of 5 — Buy. Our own rating from the research report below, on business quality first: moat durability and management, with price separating the top three.
Globe Life is the kind of business we understand in our bones: a collection of protection-focused life and supplemental health insurers selling small policies to lower-middle-income American families that the giants of the industry can't be bothered to serve. It underwrites conservatively, its policies stay on the books for decades, and management has spent forty years doing one thing with the profits — buying back stock relentlessly and sensibly. Per-share operating earnings have compounded at roughly 13% annually over the past decade while the share count shrank by nearly 40%. The company just emerged from its trial by fire. The 2024 short-seller attacks and the accompanying federal investigations were resolved in mid-2025 with the SEC and Department of Justice both closing their inquiries without any enforcement action.
