Munger Mode rating: 3 out of 5 — Hold. Our own rating from the research report below, on business quality first: moat durability and management, with price separating the top three.
We'll tell you upfront what took us a while to figure out: Hasbro is not really a toy company anymore. It is a gaming and intellectual-property royalty business — one genuinely wonderful franchise called Wizards of the Coast, which now produces the majority of revenue and the overwhelming majority of profit — stapled to an average, tariff-exposed, capital-consuming toy operation that the market spent a decade paying too much for and then two years pricing at scrap value. The wonderful part is very wonderful. Magic: The Gathering just posted its first $500 million quarter in a 33-year history. The segment earns operating margins in the mid-40s. That is See's Candies territory, and it comes with real pricing power and a devoted congregation.
