Munger Mode rating: 2 out of 5 — Sell. Our own rating from the research report below, on business quality first: moat durability and management, with price separating the top three.
Last Price: ~$27.97 (May 7, 2026 close) Charlie likes to say that you can make a respectable living running a bank if you don't do anything stupid — and that the trouble is, most bankers eventually do. We come to Regions Financial in that frame of mind. This is a $160 billion-asset Sun Belt regional bank with a passable deposit franchise, a competent CEO, and a balance sheet that has been thoughtfully de-risked over the last decade. We respect the work John Turner has done. But respect for management is not the same thing as enthusiasm for the business, and a bank earning a mid-teens return on tangible equity in a benign credit environment is not what we mean when we use the word "wonderful." It is the sort of company we would own at the right price in size only inside a much larger and more durable franchise — a Bank of America, or an American Express.
